Ian Marris is a Boat Safety Scheme Examiner covering Oxfordshire, Warwickshire and Northamptonshire.
Taking the worry out of Boat Safety Scheme Certificates
Based in Banbury, on the Oxford Canal, Ian offers Boat Safety Scheme (BSS) examinations on narrowboats, widebeams and river cruisers on the Oxford Canal, River Thames, Grand Union Canal and the River Avon around Stratford. Ian can also provide Boat Safety Certificates for small cruisers, trailer boats, dutch barges, houseboats and sailing boats.
Whatever the boat type...
... one thing remains the same; he will apply the checks required by the Boat Safety Scheme in a consistent and robust manner. He always does this with a smile and a cheery manner - which isn't something you get from every BSS examiner!
Ian will come to your boat...
... and complete the Boat Safety Scheme examination in around 1.5 hours. The cost of a Boat Safety Certificate is £230, which includes the BSS examination and the issue of a BSS Certificate on a successful pass. Should your boat not meet the requirements, Ian is always happy to discuss any plans to make the boat compliant and will offer support by phone, email or Whatsapp until a successful BSS retest takes place.
To arrange your BSS examination, call Ian on 07811 184304 or Book Online.
Consistent and Robust
As a BSS Examiner who has passed through the latest Boat Safety Scheme training process, Ian understands the checks, requirements and applicabilities in fine detail. This means he can carry out consistent BSS examinations by applying the checks as the Boat Safety Scheme intends.
This doesn't mean your boat is more or less likely to pass, but it does mean he won't misinterpret or incorrectly apply the checks during the examination. That leads to a more accurate result for you.
A friendly smile
"As a boater, I used to really worry when the 4 yearly Boat Safety Examination came around on my own boats; so I understand it can be a worrying or daunting experience for many boat owners. I always try to examine with a smile and a friendly attitude. Not every boat passes first time, but if there are a few things you need to rectify, I will be there to explain them in simple terms, without making it seem like the end of the world - because it isn't!"
